BIOGRAPHY

Lisajane Braun BA (Hons)

I have been painting since I can remember, have a background in dance, yoga and meditation and regularly attend workshops related to my professional work as an Artist.  Despite attaining a degree in Fine Art and Humanities, I still consider myself a self-taught artist and relish rekindling my creativity by developing new skills through experimentation.

I am enthused by new and challenging ways of working, discovering the potential of different mediums, styles, and processes to express my subjects imaginatively within a sense of place. At present my main goal is to perfect my line drawing using an economy of line and form.  Since lockdown I have also been concentrating more on portraiture.

I draw on imagery revealed through nature, meditation, and music, and although I sketch regularly in monotone, colour is what excites me most, with its infinite variations of energy, vibration, light and sound. The colours used in my mark-making reflect the tones of energy that I sense in the people, landscapes, and forms that I observe.

When at work, I find myself in a state of uncertainty and the piece I am working on keeps evolving; changing until it sings – only then is it finished.

I hope my paintings bring a sense of joy and encourage us all to be kinder to ourselves and to each other.
